| About this breeder: | Established in 2000, we are a boutique stud in the beautiful Hawkesbury District near Sydney. Our aim is to improve the Australian alpaca by selectively breeding for higher fleece weights, fineness and longer staple length. Originally we were interested in breeding the gorgeous greys, however in an effort to breed better alpacas our herd is now tending towards lighter colours. Our new stud is Ross Creek Achilles, a champion white son of Fine Choice Peruvian Ultimo. He has a bright white crimpy fleece and the upstanding confirmation of his sire. Herd size never greater than 35 alpacas. Highlight??? 1995 National Show - entered a black and a Med brown fleece. The black was Reserve Champion in its section. The brown was Champion of its section and Supreme Champion. To date the only brown or coloured fleece (other than white or lt fawn) to win the National Fleece Show. I've had a wonderful time and am pleased and very proud that my alpacas still compete favourably with the best in Australia. I have some excellent and well regarded bloodlines throughout my herd. | About this breeder: | Our journey started with the purchase of our farm in April 2004 for somewhere to retire and enjoy the comforts of space and experience the joy of animals, a lifestyle to good to pass. Richard is still working fulltime in our business in the Wollongong district so we share our time between our Helensburgh home and the farm at Taree. Our son Michael lives on the farm, and does a great job of looking after the animals and doing the many chores. We just love having the alpacas around and look forward to many years enjoyment with them. Our farm, Incamon Alpaca Stud is located on the south side of Taree (4km) on 30 acres. We have 2 dams, 12 paddocks, and currently run 55 alpacas, 8 cattle and Savannah our horse. Our dams attract many different species of birds including many ducks and the odd Pelican. The average rain fall for the area is 1,200mm (48 inches) per annum. Richard is no stranger to farms as he grew up on large properties but Robin and Michael were new comers’ to the experience, and just love every moment. Initially we were going to have a few cows and calves and a horse, however, after meeting some of these lovely alpaca creatures we purchased our first two in 2004 and we grew from there. We now beleive that 50 breeding females would be our optimum number. We have now acquired sufficient stock to achieve our goal. Standing at Stud we have:- * Illawarra Wenoim (Solid White); * Jaspers Brush Claudio (Solid White); * Incamon Starr (Solid White); * Bryanna Kimba (Solid White). We also have several promising young males coming through. Our breeding plan is to build our herd by breeding in animals with good confirmation, bone structure & fleece characteristics. Our alpaca numbers will grow organically and to ensure that we have enough quality grass to manage without heavy hand feeding we will reduce our cattle numbers. We have learnt so much since purchasing our first alpacas and we now look forward to continuing to breed quality alpacas show some of our young animals. We have found the alpaca farming community to be very supportive to newcomers and that is something we have fostered and will continue the journey to build this great industry and pass our knowledge and experiences onto others. | About this breeder: | After a lifetime of cattle breeding amongst other things, we decided to look for stock that could compliment our property, “Paddington Park” in Kangaroo Valley. We ran a hideaway called “The Heavens” and some cattle. After following the alpaca scene around for approximately two years, the female member of this partnership decided it was to be Alpacas that graced the lush green pastures of their mountain retreat. Beginning in 1993 with 2 pregnant females which cost an arm and a leg at that time, and fortunately being blessed with two female cria we were off… Steadily our herd grew, as did our Show successes. Then came our agistors, of whom we became very involved in their education and breeding programmes. Having a medical background as well as a rural one proved to be a bonus, and Open days, Education days and time spent with other breeders proved a wonderful and social interacting time. Becoming the Breed Captain for Sydney RAS Show for 9 years was a great experience, having shown cattle with the family since I was a child proved to be be of great benefits to us in the Alpaca industry, knowing what and how to get our industry going through the RAS. I still feel that this is our greatest advertising outlet to the general public in NSW. There were a lot of skills which were to be brought to the alpaca area at the RAS. Being a director on the first formed Alpaca Fleece Co-operative was another new experience and where I was fortunate enough to learn so much about what the mills require. We still have a long way to go in this field, and I feel a lot more knowledge is required here perhaps from woollen mill experts. Watching the fleece progress over the years from our first imported Chilean stock to the improvement from imported Peruvian genetics has been a privilege and a wonderful one to be part of. Then with the event of the Suri coming to Australia and watching breeders learn about this silken fleece has indeed been another great opportunity. I never get over enjoying city folk who have come over to the rural scene learning and enjoying this wonderful alpaca. In early 2000 circumstances brought us to Goulburn where we felt the more natural pasture may be more in keeping with the alpaca natural grazing habits. This proved to be so, and our alpacas thrived. As well there is a great network of breeders nearby who get in and assist one another and always there for advice or to be able to help one another. We continue to assist others with medical knowledge learned from our wonderful vet and his associates. We have been blessed with Bill Beresford from Moss Vale from the beginning and he continues to teach us all along the way and is always there to advise us with anything; we are eternally grateful to him for all his down to earth knowledge and skills he has handed on to us. We run approximately 140 alpacas, our own and agisted, on 100 acres here. We also have access to a nearby property on which most of our wethers are run, when we have some…. In early 2008 Paul passed away through a dreaded brain tumour, it took a lot of pleasure away from showing and getting out there selling our alpacas. Now I find I am going to have to downsize, age is catching up, and my mate isn't here to enjoy the many pleasures and sometime heartaches we shared. Showing is more difficult for me trying to run the farm etc. and getting the fun out of showing is still there but harder for me to do without Paul. So we are offering good packages and discounts, so make an offer and it will be considered seriously. All our alpacas are halter trained, and have a good temperament. Many of our males are for sale at a sensible and affordable price, as we have used them extensively in our herd. They are great buys for anyone with a small herd or needing different blood. | About this breeder: | Lavender Park Alpacas was established almost 11 years ago, on our small acerage at Morisset, (near Newcastle), New South Wales. We searched for a livestock investment that would be kind to the environment, and friendly to a family lifestyle. We decided on alpacas, after our small son spoke to some at a field day, and received a favourable answer. Then came the research. Firstly, we visited lots of open days on farms, met lots of interesting and informative people, and fell totally in love with these wonderful animals. We moved from the idea of buying a couple of wethers to get “a feel” of the management and care, straight into selecting a pregnant female and a maiden ready for joining. Unable to decide on a colour theme, we selected a black pregnant female, and fawn maiden, and have maintained this direction (with minimal deviations) ever since. We moved to our current location in search of more appropriate education, and a better lifestyle in cooler weather! Our 'pacas came with us. We are now on a 40 acre property, with the alpaca set up covering about 15 of these. We love it here, and so do they. Some people have spelt our stud name Warradene, but it has always been one R for us, like our surname. We were experienced in showing Dairy Cattle (Holsteins and Jersey Dairy Cattle), in which we hold records at Royal Adelaide Show for Supreme Dairy Cow twice along with other shows. With our knowledge of showing and genetics, we have put it to good use with our alpacas to improve the quality of our herd and the breeding outcome. 3 of our children have developed their own alpaca herds. All are owned under the Waradene Alpacas banner, but are the childrens responsibility for helping with and breeding. We aim to breed a quality fine coloured herd of alpacas both in suri and huacaya alpacas. We are known for our fineness in coloured alpacas and have been successful in having some of our alpacas exported overseas, namely Waradene Pyralis of Cambridge (Superfine Medium Grey), Waradene Cuba Chagga (Solid Black), Waradene St Patrick (Solid Medium Fawn) and Waradene Bellisimo Perfection (Solid Medium Fawn). Our successes have included Best of Colour in White, Black, Brown, Medium to Dark Fawn and Grey in the Huacaya Alpacas. We have also received Champions and Supremes for our alpacas. We have won Champion and Grand Champion Suri Alpacas at shows. We have also shown our coloured fleeces, to win several Grand Championship, Championships and Reserve Champion Fleece of Show, Supreme Colour and Best of Colour Fleece of Show. A bit about each of us: SHARON manages the husbandry side of the business as well as assisting with showing. Sharon was formerly the Vice President of the Australian Alpaca Association, SA region, and was on committee for 3 years. In her first year, she was the secretary for the region. Sharon also co-convenes the Colour Classic SA with 3 other SA breeders (Wendy Jones, Leanne Pearce & James Wheeler). This is held in Murray Bridge during August. Sharon was responsible for convening the first Alpaca Extravaganza held in Murray Bridge and received a nomination for the SA Great awards for her efforts. Sharon has been the Animal Health Representative for SA, trained as an accredited Industry Liaison Officer and assists new members with their problems or questions. Sharon was also active in obtaining the NATIONAL SHOW AND SALE for 2009 in Adelaide. She was the secretary for this committee. Since retiring from committee work, Sharon is now the co-editor of the SA Regions Magazine, Read and Breed with her friend and collegue, Rhonda Pitt from Lomavista Alpacas. JOHN has formerly been on the committee as an ordinary member for the Australian Alpaca Association SA Region. John is usually found doing all the jobs that no-one wants to do, or behind the scenes work that no-one knows to do. He is always there to help out. John does halter training for shows and roustabouting at shearing. He assists with the husbandry side (he holds, Sharon jabs). John has assisted Sharon and the other convenors with Colour Classic and Alpaca Extravaganza, and is a valuable member of the task force. AIMEE is expecting the new addition to the Waradene Alpacas family. Aimee has 'retired'from farm life for the time being until baby is able to be involved. During showing time, Aimee is often 'borrowed' at shows to help with leading animals. Aimee has been a model for the Alpaca Extravaganza fashion parade. Aimees herd specialises in black. She has won many ribbons in the black classes. LUKE is at school and is studying agriculture. He is interested in all animals. Luke is the quiet achiever in our group. He used to be the smaller one of our family, but if you spot him in the ring, he is the tall skinny one. Luke travels to school so he does not get alot of time doing the husbandry, but is there for shows and shearing etc. Luke bred Waradene Warrior Jacinta who won Champion Jnr Female Mt Pleasant 2007. He specialises in whites. JESSICA is the baby of the family but probably one of the most knowledgeable. Jessica trains most of our show team for the shows. She is experienced with birthing, husbandry, shearing, etc. Jessica will willingly give up going to school if there is an alpaca of hers about to give birth, or when shearing is on. Jessica can often be seen in the ring leading the smallest to nearly the largest animals during show season. She is not scared to get in a give something a go. Jessica bred Waradene Pride, who was Champion Jnr Male Hamilton 2006. Jessicas herd is fawn and browns. MATT has a degree in Marine Biology. He is at Uni completing his 2nd degree. TIM is away working most of the time and does not get time to spend with the alpacas. We like to offer our clients a pretty extensive assistance programme. We are willing to help any new or experienced alpaca breeder out with their problem where applicable. We are willing to assist the breeder with problems with crias not feeding, halter training methods, etc, within normal limitations. If we've experienced it, we will help out, or try and find out someone that has had similar problems, to find a solution. Although we don't take over and do the work, we can be there to assist if needed (where possible) or talk you through a problem birth etc over the phone. | About this breeder: | Hinchcliffe Alpacas was birthed officially in 2008 after a love affair with alpacas which began in May, 2007 with our original purchase of 2 wethers, Jack, a solid black huacaya, and Barney, a solid medium brown huacaya whom we purchased from Rathdowney Alpaca Farm, not far from our acreage home at Kooralbyn. It was not long before we added Southland Raskol a solid white huacaya male who was later joined by a weanling Teddy who has a superb chocolate brown soft, fine and crimpy fleece and his mate Phantom a solid white huacaya male alpaca with very fine, crimpy lustrous fleece. I have heard it said that Alpacas are addictive and this may be true, they certainly are therapeutic and have a calming effect on most people when interacting. As mentioned previously our original motivation for the purchase of alpacas was for lawnmowers on our acreage property but we fell in love with the alpaca as a farm animal and also developed a high respect for their wonderful fibre and environmentally friendly characteristics. After our first shearing in 2007 it was very exciting to receive our first supply of natural spun yarn from our own animals, which was able to be knitted up into wonderful garments or sold to local knitters. "Our mission is to produce a high yielding quality fleece with softness of handle and lower micron." | About this breeder: | 4 generations of our family have lived on our farm, and we have been breeding alpacas for 14 years. We like to keep our operation small, and manageable, we know all our animals by name, and like to offer a "no nonsense", honest approach to husbandry and sales. This approach, we believe, has allowed us to offer some wonderfully bred stock for very reasonable prices, from pets/herdguards, to show animals, and potential herdsires. Korobeit Alpacas operates as a farm, and we believe that, just like with cattle and grain, the market should decide the price of the product. Some breeders set a price for their animals based on what they would "like" to receive, and what they think their stock "should" be worth, and then try and find a buyer. This approach is fine, and good luck to them, as long as the buyer has done their homework, and ends up happy with the deal. We, on the other hand, have been using a different approach. Our "sale list", includes all animals that we believe have something to offer buyers, and let them decide which stock to choose, to suit their needs. Our pricing formula is as follows: Cost of production Plus Percentage of farm costs** Plus Modest profit (otherwise, whats the point) Equals Good outcome for both sides of the deal. ** (we try and sell about 10 animals per year, so, roughly, each animal carries about %10 of running costs) Sorry to bore you with all this, but, just remember that a $6000 animal is "not necessarily" four times better than a similar one for $1500.
